Off-Topic: Chuck

Postby ccesarano » Mon May 04, 2009 11:02 am

Like any normal human, my interests extend beyond one simple hobby. Television is typically not one of those major interests, but every once in a while there comes a television show that hooks me in like an obsession. The most recent of these is Chuck.

Just like everyone else, I originally thought of Chuck as “that show that comes on before Heroes” when it began airing towards the end of 2007 and start of 2008. However, after catching the last few minutes several times and noticing the splendid Adam Baldwin (known to most as Jane from Firefly) as part of the show, I decided to give it a whirl from the beginning.

I've caught a few episodes and liked it, but I just don't watch TV. Even for shows I'd like to watch and there are many. (Lost, Chuck, Heroes, Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch to name a few) Even if I have the time I choose not to watch. I do however watch shows on DVD. It's always sunny in Philly(I'm not even going to try and spell it right now) Spaced, Red Dwarf, Monty Python.

Also, I didn't know Adam Baldwin was Jane in Firefly.
No, you're the silly one.
Well maybe then I misunderstood you!

Hmm, my friend watched the first season a while back, he said it was ok.

I'll probably give it a shot, I'll see if I can borrow it from him or get the DVDs or something. I don't think it's aired in Australia yet, but I've heard mostly good things.

I'm a bit like Nolan now, in that I generally don't watch a lot of TV, when I do it's mostly Australian stuff like Underbelly (Basically the Australian equivalent of Sopranos, all true crime stories), Thank God You're Here etc. Instead I usually check out good TV series on DVD, like Deadwood, Sopranos, Rome etc. I find it much more enjoyable to watch them that way than on TV.

I am currently going through series 1. And I am lowing it! The show did dip a little after the pilot, but as the series got into full swing it has really picked up. Finding a nice balance between story and humor. Part of what makes this show great for me is obviously the geek humor, but I always find that if a show has a great story that makes you care about the characters (as well as having some form of humor throughout) I will continue to watch. Now to finish series 1...
