Welcome to Gamertagged!
By Chris CesaranoI love talking about video games as much as I love playing them. I love to dissect what makes them fun, where they break down, and what sets them apart from other mediums of entertainment.
However, I’ve never really been able to find a place that provides the sort of reading material or concepts that appeal to me. Most game magazines and sites are written by people that don’t analyze them as deeply as I do. They try and tack on a number to games and let bias effect their opinion of a title. They are often targeted towards players that don’t play too many games and aren’t interested in the deeper workings of the industry and game design. The few sites that do focus on these ideas are often full of people that are too critical or even pretentious. They look at their childhood and past with rose tinted glasses to convince themselves games are getting worse, not better, or they are tied too tightly to specific genres or platforms to give others a fair assessment.
GamerTagged falls between. The philosophy is that games and game design are an art form, and as such they should be analyzed and studied as any other art form might. At the same time, it’s no fun being a bunch of snobs sitting in an ivory tower. So despite writing about more in depth ideas than usual, we want to deliver it in a form that anyone can enjoy, and perhaps open their eyes to something they’ve never seen before in games.
To help reach this goal, following categories of articles have been created to provide a form of regular content to be explored. Reviews take games, be they new or old, and attach a simple word to describe their quality instead of an obscure number. A game is either excellent, good, a rental, poor or atrocious. Elitist Express allows the writers to pick out a critically acclaimed title or franchise and grind their axe to it. Under-rated highlights titles that are often enough overlooked by the bigger hits, deserving a second glance for good quality or ideas. Media Mayhem, Gaming 101 and Age Appropriate are all article types under Parents, all writings targeted towards non-gamers looking to get an understanding of this new and exciting entertainment medium.
This includes the various uncategorized articles to come that will tackle anything and everything relating to games and the industry. Don’t be surprised if you see the occasional Off-Topic article, either. After all, gamers enjoy a wide variety of hobbies.
To all that have come to visit, thank you for coming. Hopefully you’ll keep coming back to see what there is to read. A minimum of one article per day will be posted Monday through Friday, time and resources willing.
Happy reading to you all.
